The Hangover (2009)

Madness. Complete madness. There is no other way to describe this film other than to call it a mad caper that leaves you in splits from start to finish. What were they on when they wrote this story?!!

‘The Hangover’ revolves around four friends; we’ll actually three friends and a would-be brother-in-law who go to Las Vegas for the bachelor party before the wedding of Doug. Throw in a wild stoned night that no one remembers the next day, a tiger in the hotel room and the missing groom and you have a wacky and wild chase to find the missing person and get him back to his wedding in time.

It is difficult to write about this movie because anything written here would take away from the craziness of the experience that the four characters go through. It is seen to be experienced. All I can say is that it is one hell of a ride that keeps you guessing and keeps you laughing. There are a couple of sequences that I felt were in poor taste, in terms of making an older dying person a source of laughs and making a baby do something very adult.

The acting honors are shared evenly but two characters that endear themselves are the slow and anachronistic brother-in-law Alan played by Zach Galifianakis and Phil, the married and cynical school teacher played by Bradley Cooper. Director Todd Phillips does a great job of constructing sequences that keep the viewer guessing as to when the next mad thing is going to happen.

‘The Hangover’ is great escapist fare. A perfect movie if you want to laugh.
